SENIOR HIGH SCHOOL


Fifteen Scientifi c and Technological Senior High School Centers and one Technological Senior High School Center featuring 66 programs in the in-school system, one in open education and four in distance education.

 

Technical High-School


Programs provide students with the necessary skills to access higher education, on top of a solid technical background that enables them to join the work environment. Quality of the Insitute’s academic programs is publicly recognized
by external accreditation agencies recognized by the Consejo para la Acreditación de la Educación Superior (Higher Education Certifi cation Board, COPAES), which endorses programs at this level; 2008-2009 enrollment amounted to 53,176 students.

 

UNDER-GRADUATE EDUCATION


The Institute educates students for professional performance in the labor market through 25 schools, centers and inter-disciplinary units in school face to face and virtual modes, both based on teaching and research at laboratories, workshops and pilot plants. Most of our programs are eight semesters long, while others extend from nine to ten semesters. The selection process takes place by means of an annual acceptance exam. The 2008-2009 school-year had 90,675 students, 72 bachelor degree programs and 25 higher education campuses. On February 2008, the Guanajuato Campus’ Professional Inter-Disciplinary Engineering Unit opened its doors with four bachelor degree

programs. More than 96% of all under-graduate students were enrolled in programs recognized by the different agencies that comprise COPAES.

GRADUATE STUDIES

Graduate studies are fl exible and closely linked to research and feature a strong component based on tutorials to facilitate academic exchange. Students also benefi t from the advantages offered by technology, as well as from workplace experiences. More than fi ve thousand students are enrolled in the 25 specialties, 68 master degrees, and 32 PhD programs. Graduate studies are taught in colleges and research centers nationwide. The National Graduate Program recognizes fi fty-four of these programs, which accounts for close to 40% of total enrollment.

 

CONTINUING EDUCATION

The Foreign Language Centers (CENLEX), at the Adolfo López Mateos and Lázaro Cárdenas units, as well as the 19 Language Units (CELEX) located at high school and college campuses, feature learning units, teaching materials and self-study rooms to reinforce classroom taught knowledge. During the last two months of 2008, almost 54,000 students were enrolled in English, French, German, Italian, Japanese, and other languages. Thanks to a institutional effort, more than 70% of all professors are internationally certifi ed. In order to meet educational needs through life, the Institute features 12 Continuing Education and Distance Education centers, as well as a Virtual Education Polytechnic Unit, offering educational programs at high-school, college and post-graduate levels, as well as courses, workshops, conferences, and other educational events nationwide.
